17th day of Manga Advent Calendar 2015
Hello everyone, here is the seventeenth day of Manga Advent
Calendar 2015.Now as I said as yesterday’s hint that today’s manga is a tale of
a curse and how it kills off students in a class. Today’s pick is Another.
I began reading another because it was known for its intense
horror elements but also an interesting plot line that leaves the reader guessing.
I was looking for something like higurashi but shorter as I had spent a lot of
time figuring out the plot and trying to understand what the overarching story was.so
then I found that Another was the same format but more of a liner storyline on
no time reset format.
The story line of Another is following Koichi Sakakibara as
he transfers into Class 3-3 at Yomiyama North Middle School. The class holds a secret
that causes the class to be cursed causing several of the students to die gruesome
deaths. Koichi is drawn to the mysterious Mei Misaki who he believes can
explain what is going on and how to save his class mates before the cure clams
more victims. Meany gruesome deaths happen with a lot of plot development and
in the end its similar to Battle Royal in the concept that it become a battle
for survival. We learn more about the tragic background of Mei Misaki who is
the most interesting character in this story (I don’t want to go into spoilers because
it’s worth a read).
The story line is well crafted as there are twists but the
plot dose make sense and isn’t too confusing so much so that you would have to
read it again to understand the whole story. The characters may not be fleshed
out thoroughly as some are killed off early but this plot pays attention to the
overarching problem of the curse. This plot is really good for new people to
the horror mystery genre and allows people to understand plots, I read this
before reading higurashi and it helped a lot as it explains a few of the elements
that are work in some of the arcs (also the level of horror/gore is not on the level
of higurashi so it’s good for those who like horror but not too intense). I think
its worth a read and that’s why I’m writing about it.

looking into tomorrow is set in a school and the students all have a task to do
or else the world will be doomed.
