Hello, Welcome to the 7th day of the manga Advent Calendar
of 2016 and today we will be looking into “Uzumaki
“and how it was in inspired stories like Cthulhu and H. P. Lovecraft it the
dark style and sets a standard for disturbing imagery
The basic premise is that citizens of Kurôzu-cho, which is
plagued by supernatural spirals. The premise is basic but where this story
shines is in that artwork and how this creates some nightmare fuel which looks to
have influenced franchises like “The Last Of Us” and the designs for the
clickers. Other imagery like outlast seems to take from the crazed people angle
that arises in this manga and how people lose sanity and become killers.in the
end its worth reading for the art style but you become sucked in by the misty
and intrigue set up in the story.Junji Ito's work in the horror genre has created a higher standard
of work which is more of an art form and less like a “comic book” as my mum
would say and if you are attracted to his stories and art find some more of his
work, as it was hard for me to pick just one to talk about another one of note
to compare is “Gyo Ugomeku Bukimi” aka the one with the demon fish. Over all
his works are worth reading at some point just depends if you’re ready for what
you find.
My personal fact for day eight of the manga Advent Calendar
of 2016, is that I love cooking and sweets the most. We have a Scottish candy
called “Tablet” which is made using sugar which you can flavour with stuff like
honey and alcohol. tomorrow I will be looking into a manga that teaches about
candy and the history of candy in an interesting format.
See you all soon, Regards Fiona
