Hello, Welcome to the 2nd day of the manga Advent Calendar
of 2016 and today we will be looking into some retro anime “Cardcaptor Sakura” With a new anime arc adaptation coming out next
year I was thinking to highlight where this came from and also draw attention
to one of the shows that helped make magical girls popular.
The basic premise is that Sakura must recover the Clow Cards
which have magical powers and cause hijinks to happen, she is given the title of
Cardcaptor with her mascot Kero-chan and fights against troubles that arise due
to the cards. It’s a basic premise but it advances the more you read as more
people are introduced and there are power struggles over the cards.it is your quintessential
shoujo anime that is a good start point for getting into the genre or even into
anime as it’s not as complex as modern magical girl shows are like magic madoka
as that is framed as a deconstruction of basics covered in shows like Cardcaptor
Sakura, it was also made by the all-female manga artist group known as CLAMP
which at the time there was a lack of women in the manga industry so think of
this as a retro manga written by a group
who were breaking expectations of women in the work place and revolutionised
the industry and the shojo genre.
My personal fact for day two is that I am a massive CLAMP
fan and I have spent a lot of my time reading and re-reading their works as
some of the hidden themes and references are hard to pick up the first time around.
My Favourites are Angelic Layer, Magic Knight Rayearth and one of the classics Chobits.
The choice for tomorrow is from CLAMP its one I have recently discovered and is
much darker in tone and I think I can fully appreciate it now I’m older and
understand references within other CLAMP works and also that life in not all
like a Shojo manga.
I will see you all tomorrow guys
Regards Fiona
