5th day of the manga Advent Calendar of 2016

Hello, Welcome to the 5th day of the manga Advent Calendar of 2016 and today we will be looking into one of the best modern manga in my time of reading “Gakkougurashi!” and how it blends slice of life with a horror and parallels within the two versions of this school setting.
The basic premise is that it follows a group of cute girls going around there high school life going to classes and attending the School Living Club with friends such as drinking tea and having banter like friends do. After the first few chapters we see the cracks in this idealist life style and how our main girl Yuki Takeya (she is the one with the cat ear hat) becomes unreliable as a source of information about this world, and then things switch to the horror elements as we discover it’s a zombie apocalypse in reality. For the rest of the story we switch between the light slice of life and the zombie reality, which is a fabrication of Yuki Takeya as a coping mechanism to deal with the fact as the world is messed up. It’s been well balanced in the spilt of horror and school life, we also see the crumbling of the casts mental state and how things escalate in this story. It’s an interesting concept and I think it’s worth a read if you haven’t read some of the other stuff I haver recommended like Higurashi and Umineko ( Umineko is like Higurashi but mixed with elements from Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, PS it’s a great game even if you can’t play it watch someone play it as it will become an anime at some point) the show was a bit underrated due to the  pacing of the show and the lack of the true ending but it’s something for people who prefer to watch rather than read, but reading this at the same time enhances the experience and also expands on some of the more dramatic moments which has been removed  due to it being gory and scary.

My personal fact for day five is that I’m really into zombie manga but it needs to bring something new to the table rather than the Apocalypse, the manga I will be looking into will bring a new  aspect to zombie anime genre and presents it in a new format which makes it enjoyable and interesting.

I will See you all tomorrow guys
Regards Fiona
